Well, 1999 certainly shaped up to be an good year:  lots of fun with family and friends and a kick-ass vacation to the most beautiful dive spot to date.  Here are some shots.

[Jack's Wedding]We had such a good time at Jack and Susan Mayo's wedding that we completely forgot to get a picture with either of them.  Oh well, Jeff McLean (center) and I got to wear silly hats made of balloons and that's the important thing.

[Dave's Birthday Party]This is me with my friends Steve and Dave at Dave's 40th birthday party this summer.  I just hope I can hold my own like he does when I go over that hump shortly.  In case you ever get worried about the stability of Sun Microsystems, I guess I should mention that you're looking at three of the most senior members of Sun's Southern Area systems engineering staff.  What can I say:  we work hard and we play hard ...

[Crew of the Field Office]The only thing better than owning a boat is having friends who own a boat.  In this case it's scuba buddies Ray Voight and Curt Harpold who are the new co-owners of the sailing vessel Field Office, docked in Annapolis.  Here's me, Ray and our first mate Kelly off to explore the Chesapeake Bay one sunny weekend this summer.

[John in PNG]I thought I had seen the most beautiful dive spots in the world until I went to Papua New Guinea.  My first real long vacation ever, it was way overdue and I made the most of it:  thirty-six dives in nine days cruising on a fabulous live-aboard boat run by the most famous and well-respected dive operator in the South Pacific.  But don't take my word for it, see the pictures from this amazing trip yourself.

[John and Joanne]One of the nice things about being on the road so much is that I get to visit special friends from time to time.  Here's me with fellow sushi lover Joanne Opitz at the Pink Godzilla, our favorite sushi restaurant in Santa Cruz.

[Holiday Party Limousine]This year's Sun holiday party was held at the beautiful Union Station in downtown Washington DC.  Here's this year's party crew in the stretch limousine we used to arrive at our casino night in style.

[Boyer Bash]Paul Boyer's annual winter bash was another great success.  Here's Paul and me with college cronies Tom McCarty, left, and Andy Quittmeyer, right center.

[Dinner Club]Newlyweds Cynthia and Tom Lion hosted the holiday dinner club party this year.  We've been doing this for about three years now: we all take turns hosting the dinner and preparing the entrée, while the other guests bring a different side dish, vegetables, dessert, or wine.  It's been a great way to get together with good friends and try out new recipes.

[Santa Claus]This was my second year as jolly ol' St. Nick for the employees' kids at Sun's annual family night.  I must have seen over 100 children!  We set up games and food for everyone along with fun with a giant bear and a clown.  The kids bring along a toy for the needy as their entrance fee to the party and I gave each one who visited Santa a small teddy bear wearing a bright red Sun vest.

[New Year's 2000]The new millenium came without any Y2K catastrophe, except how I felt the next day.  Here's me with Julie and Ray whooping it up on the big night.
